Mythos Grinder Not Grinding

Hey! I’ve been using a Mythos grinder for the last two years at our coffee shop. We grind about 20g at a time and set it to be fine enough to extract at between 26-30 seconds. When we set the grinder fine enough to extract the espresso in that time, the grinder doesn’t grind. I hear the motor working but the burrs aren’t spinning.

Does anyone know the cause of this? Is it a motor problem or something else?

I suspect that you are hearing the motor trying to spin. Weak run capacitor is the usual culprit. Run capacitors and an additional set of windings do two things, determine motor direction of rotation and add additional torque at startup and during full rpm operation They do not drop out of the circuit like a Start capacitor. The lower speed Mythos use a two step capacitor to add additional start torque and then drop half the capacitance after two seconds. If you have a Mythos that sounds like it is shifting gears, it is the functioning of the mentioned capacitor.
